Dorothy A. Peterson

MADISON — Dorothy Ann Peterson, age 88, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 12, 2012, at The Lantern of Madison. She was a longtime resident of Leroy Township, moving to Madison 20 years ago.

Born Sept. 14, 1924, in Cleveland, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late Rose (Turk) and John Zaitz. Dorothy married Jack Peterson in Cleveland, Ohio, on April 11, 1942.

Dorothy retired from Bailey Meter as an Electrical assembler. She also worked at Chase Brass in Euclid during World War II, General Electric in Cleveland and Upson Machinery in Painesville, Ohio. Dorothy had been a past secretary of the AMLA of Leroy.

She was a past member of St. Mary’s of Painesville and also attended Leroy Community Chapel and for a short time attended The Cornerstone Church of Madison.

Some of Dorothy’s favorite things were dancing with her husband to their favorite Polka music. Dorothy also enjoyed gatherings of family and friends, taking care of her home and yard, gardening, raking and burning leaves, picking berries, apples and cherries, making sausage with friends and taking her “one tank trips” with her friends to Niagara Falls, Canada, Wilkes Barre, Pa., and West Virginia. She also enjoyed watching Tiger Woods and the Cleveland Indians.

Dorothy will be fondly remembered for her sense of humor and beautiful smile. She was also very proud of her family and will be greatly missed by family and friends alike. The family would like to thank the staff of The Lantern of Madison Assisted Living and Hospice of the Western Reserve for all their gentle and loving care.

She is survived by three daughters, Jaqueline (John) Geizer of Painesville, Kathleen (David) Davis of Concord and Darlene (Richard) Harvey of Concord; three sons, John (Lora) Peterson of Painesville, James (Pauline) Peterson of Montville and Joseph (Margery) Peterson of Austinburg; 22 grandchildren, 47 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; and many nieces and nephews.
