NORTH BLOOMFIELD — Edith M Surkala, age 92, passed away at Briar Hill Rehab Center on Friday, July 4, 2014.
She was born August 9, 1921, the daughter of Frank Vlach and Mae J. (Hosek) Vlach. She was married to Andrew Surkala on August 8, 1942.
Edith was a long time member of St. Mary Catholic Church, Orwell, Ohio and St. Helen Catholic Church, Glendale, Ariz. Edith loved spending time in prayer and with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren who will miss her dearly, her sage advice and beautiful smile.
She is survived by four children, Andrew (Marilyn) Surkala of Jefferson, Barbara (David) Bailey of North Bloomfield, Kenneth (Pia) of Prescott Valley Ariz. and Daniel (Joyce) of Concho, Ariz.; eight grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
Edith was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; and one brother, Thomas Vlach.
Visitation will be held at PAINE FUNERAL HOME INC., 140 E. Main St., Orwell, on Tuesday, July 8th, from 4 to 6 p.m. Visitation will conclude with the Rev. John Madden leading a Prayer Service at 6 p.m.
At the family’s request, in lieu of flowers please make memorial contributions to St. Mary Catholic Church due to Funeral Services in Arizona. Envelopes available at the funeral home.
A Funeral Mass and Visitation are being scheduled at St. Helen Catholic Church, Glendale, Ariz. Burial will follow at Sun West Cemetery, ElMirage, Ariz. Arrangements in Arizona are being handled by Heritage Funeral Chapel, 6830 W. Thunderbird Road, Peoria, Ariz. 85381.
