CONNEAUT — Louis G. Bartone, age 96 of Conneaut, Ohio, died Thursday, July 18, 2013, at the Villa at the Lake.

Born in Conneaut, Lou was the son of Felix and Mary Bartone and graduated from Conneaut High School.

Following high school, he went on to sail on the Great Lakes. He returned to Conneaut and went to work as a welder at the P & C Dock Company and also as a ship loader and machine operator. He retired after 35 years of service.

Lou was a member of St. Mary/ St. Frances Cabrini Parish. He loved doing carpentry and puttering around the house. He enjoyed gardening, canning, and his real passion was making homemade Italian wine for his family and friends.

Lou traveled to California with his wife and in recent years traveled to Italy with his sons to Santa Maria and Del Molise. He also enjoyed the senior bowling league and having breakfast at Basil’s Café with the guys.

Louis was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Mary Jane Porter Bartone; and three sisters, Clara Gentile, Margaret Licate and Antoinette Ferrio.

He is survived by his sons, Philip and Anne Marie Bartone of North Kingsville and David and Toi Bartone of Los Angeles, Calif.; daughters, Barbara and Roland Warriner of Conneaut and Debbie and William “Bill” Fitzmartin of Conneaut; five grandchildren, Mark and Becky Bartone, James Bartone, Michele Voll, Kaitlin Bartone and Briana Bartone; sister, Julie Spinelli of Erie, Pa.; and several nieces and nephews.

Calling Hours will be held on Sunday, July 21st, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the RAISIAN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 581 Harbor St., Conneaut.

Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. on Monday, July 22nd, at St. Frances Cabrini Church, 744 Mill St., Conneaut, with Father Philip Miller, of St. Mary/ St. Frances Cabrini Parish, presiding. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, Route 20, Conneaut.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Frances Cabrini Building Fund. Envelopes will be available at the Funeral Home.
