ASHTABULA — Dorothy J. Manyo, age 87, of Ashtabula, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 15, 2014, at home surrounded by her loving family.

She was born July 7, 1926, in Jefferson, the daughter of Victor and Benedicta (Fronaple) Meaney. On June 9, 1951, she married John S. Manyo Sr. at St. Joseph Calasanctius Church in Jefferson and they spent 44 years together before he preceded her in death on Nov. 1, 1995.

Dorothy was a member of Our Lady of Peace Parish, St. Joseph Church in Ashtabula. She was a wonderful homemaker who also worked for the Carlisle-Allen Company in Ashtabula for many years. She also volunteered with ACMC (formerly Ashtabula General Hospital) as a “Pink Lady”, was a member of CCL (Child Guidance League), and volunteered as a reading aide with Ashtabula City Schools.

After retiring, she and her husband wintered in Ft. Myers, Fla. Dorothy also enjoyed spending time with her friends who formed an informal wine tasting group that met at Chalet Debonne. In addition, she enjoyed gardening, casino trips, crossword puzzles, and was active at the Chalk Box until 6 months before her passing.

Her survivors include her children, Jane (Joe Mahoney) Manyo-Mahoney of Plantation, Fla., John “Jack” (Mary Sue) Manyo Jr. of Ashtabula, Ohio, Mary Jean Swortwood of Cincinnati, Ohio and Julie Manyo of Columbus, Ohio; grandchildren, Shannon Mahoney, Meaghan (Vladi Dusil) Mahoney-Dusil, Joseph Mahoney, John Mahoney, Natalie Manyo, John A. Manyo, Madeleine Swortwood, Meredith (Balazs) Novak and Paige Swortwood; great-grandson, John Andrew Manyo Jr.; sister, Helen Moore of Tiffin, Ohio. She is also survived by many other nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John S. Manyo Sr.; her parents; sister, Mary Rita Mertes; and brothers, Victor P. Meaney, Gerald Meaney and Richard Meaney.

A Memorial Mass will be celebrated 11 a.m., Saturday, Jan. 25th, at Our Lady of Peace Parish, St. Joseph Church, 3312 Lake Ave., Ashtabula, where the family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until the time of Service, at the Church. Fr. Ernesto Rodriguez will preside. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery.
