JEFFERSON — Carolyn Margaret Harris, age 84, of Chapel Road, Jefferson, Ohio, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Sunday, Dec. 8, 2013, at her home.

She was born Feb. 23, 1929, in Marietta, Ohio, the daughter of Howard M and Helen (Flading) Dye and had been an area resident since 1961.

A 1947 graduate of Sandusky High School, she married the love of her life, Eugene Harris on August 25, 1947, and they celebrated 53 wonderful years together.

A member of St. Joseph Calasanctius Church, she helped as a CCD teacher for many years. She also volunteered for Big Brothers/Big Sisters.

Carolyn loved yellow roses and the color green, enjoyed hunting and target shooting in her younger years, and was passionate about taking care of the birds in her back yard, especially the hummingbirds.

Always know for her feisty nature, she will be dearly missed by her many loving friends and family members.

Her survivors include one daughter, Charlotte Jean Brown of Ashtabula; three sons, James J. Harris of St. Marys, Ohio, The Honorable Thomas E. Harris of Conneaut and Patrick A. Harris of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.; seven grandchildren, Jonathan, Jessica, Jeremy, Rosemary, Leigh and Paul Harris and Elizabeth Onzima; four great-grandchildren, Ashley, Robert, Broderick and Meredith Harris and one more on the way; one sister, Nancy Notestine of Sandusky; numerous nieces and nephews; and her feline companion, “Cali the cat”.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene Harris on Nov. 13, 2000; her daughter, Dian Marie Harris on Dec. 20, 2010; three brothers, Howard, Charles and David Dye; one sister, Mary Martin; and her parents.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11 a.m., Thursday, Dec. 12th, at St. Joseph Calasanctius Church, 32 E. Jefferson St., Jefferson. The Rev. John Sheridan, Pastor, will preside. Burial will be in Oakdale Cemetery.

Calling Hours will be 5 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 11th, at the ZABACK-WILLIAMS-DUCRO FUNERAL HOME, 500 W. Prospect Road, Ashtabula, Ohio.
