BOWLING GREEN, Ky. — Jeannette Allene Pickens (nee Brocklehurst), age 95, of Bowling Green, Ky., formerly of Kingsville, Ohio, passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 27, 2013, with her son and daughters at her side.
Jeannette was born in Ashtabula, Ohio, on Nov. 11, 1917, the daughter of Wells and Ethel (Rood) Brocklehurst. She graduated from Kingsville High School, class of 1935, and married Raymond “Bart” Pickens on March 28, 1937. They resided in Kingsville until moving to Bowling Green in 1971.
She worked as a cafeteria aide at Edgewood Senior High School from 1967 – 1970. While residing in Kentucky, she worked in Central Service at the Medical Center of Bowling Green, retiring in 1985.
Jeannette is survived by daughters, Shirley Wilkinson of Bowling Green, Ky. and Sandy Bennett of North Kingsville, Ohio; son, Blaine (Debbie) Pickens of Yorktown, Va.; grandchildren, Brian, Renee, Janet and Damon of Bowling Green, Ky., Scott and Jeff Bennett of Conneaut, Ohio and Todd and Tanya of Virginia; 13 great grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and nieces, nephews and more distant relatives.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and brothers, Gordon, Wells Jr., Wallace and Harley.
A Celebration of Life will be held 1:30 p.m., Thursday, August 1st, at MARCY FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATION CENTER, 208 Liberty St., Conneaut, Ohio, with Pastor Mary Susan Pisano, of Kingsville Presbyterian Church, officiating. Burial will be in Lulu Falls Cemetery, Kingsville.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, at the Funeral Home, with Orion Chapter #12 OES Services at 7:45 p.m.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Western Kentucky. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
