WARREN — Frederick J. "Jim" "Pete" Smith, age 68, of Warren, Ohio, died Tuesday, Feb. 5, 2013, at St. Elizabeth Health Center in Youngstown, Ohio.

He was born May 4, 1944, in Warren, Ohio, the son of Frederick G. and Marjorie K. (Postlethwait) Smith. A lifelong area resident, Mr. Smith was formerly of Kinsman and lived in Warren since 1968. He was a 1962 graduate of Joseph Badger High School in Kinsman; earned an Associate Degree from Bowling Green State University; and earned his Bachelor Degree in Electrical Engineering from Kent State University. He was a Veteran of the Vietnam War having served in the U.S. Air Force; and retired as a Reservist in 1994 from the Youngstown Air Base.

He retired in 1994 from Packard Electric in Warren after 30 years of employment. Mr. Smith was a member of the Braceville Christian Church in Braceville, Ohio; was a lifetime member of the D.A.V.; a member of the Air Force Association; and a past member of the Harry Lees Post #506 American Legion in Kinsman.

In his most recent years, he enjoyed traveling, especially to spend time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He also enjoyed fishing and camping.

Mr. Smith is survived by his wife, Sammy L. (Lunsford) Smith, whom he married Nov. 23, 1968, of Warren, Ohio; sons, Robert J. Smith of Warren, Ohio and Richard J. (Carolyn) Smith of Champion, Ohio; daughter, Denise B. (David) Foss of Moyoc, N.C.; father, Frederick G. Smith of Gustavus Township, Ohio; two sisters, Sandra J. (Roland) Wildman of Gustavus Township, Ohio and Cindy M. (Kirk) Hutchens of Conneaut, Ohio; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his mother.

A Funeral Service will be held 11 a.m., Saturday, Feb. 9th, at BAUMGARDNER FUNERAL & CREMATION SERVICE, 8569 Main St., Kinsman, Ohio, with Jon D. Pratt officiating. Burial will follow in Gustavus Cemetery.

Calling Hours will be from 6 to 8 p.m., Friday, Feb. 8th, and from 10 a.m. until time of Service, Saturday, at the Funeral Home.
