PAINESVILLE — Edna (Triebe) Pruitt, age 96, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, Dec. 12, 2012, at Ivy House Residential Care in Painesville.
She was born June 7, 1916, in Queens, N.Y. Mrs. Pruitt was a 1941 graduate of Kings County Hospital School of Nursing in Brooklyn, N.Y. She went on to earn a B.S. and M.A. in Education at New York University.
During her 40-year career in nursing at New York City hospitals, Mrs. Pruitt served as Director of Nursing for 26 years. In 1981, she retired from Jamaica Hospital Medical Center in Queens, and relocated to New England, to be near her daughter. After living in North Carolina and Georgia, Mrs. Pruitt moved to Lake County, Ohio in 2001. She lived in Willoughby and Concord Township, prior to entering The Villa at the Lake Assisted Living in Conneaut, in 2006. She had been a resident of Ivy House, in Painesville, since July 2011.
During her career, Edna enjoyed knitting and bowling in her spare time. After her retirement, she became an avid baseball fan, always rooting for the home team, and never missing a game on TV or radio. She also read the local newspaper every day, before completing the crossword puzzle. Legally blind, due to macular degeneration, Edna had to give up knitting. However, she continued to read the newspaper and complete the crossword puzzles, with the assistance of a hand held magnifier. At The Villa at the Lake, Edna was once again able to enjoy bowling, as a member of a Wii league. She also developed an interest in Bingo and crafts. However, through the years, Edna’s greatest joy was her beloved grandsons.
Edna leaves her daughter, Linda (Richard) Baron of Painesville Township; and grandsons, Christopher (Melan) Baron, of Quincy, Mass. and Matthew Baron of Atlanta, Ga.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Lawrence Pruitt Jr., a Veteran of WW II, who died in 1945. Also preceding her in death were her sisters, Bertha Hartill and Elizabeth Triebe; and a brother, Arthur Triebe.
