SAYBROOK TOWNSHIP — Glenn Alva Thompson, age 82, of Saybrook Township, Ohio, formerly of Kelloggsville, Ohio, passed away Sunday evening, July 7, 2013, at his residence.

Having sold their home in Kelloggsville, Mr. and Mrs. Thompson had moved to Saybrook a week ago. Born Nov. 12, 1930, in Kingsville, Ohio, he was the son of Alva A. and Nelda (Wiser) Thompson.

A lifelong area resident, Glenn was a heavy equipment operator working for Union Carbide for 37 1/2 years, retiring from Elkem Metals in 1987.

He was a member of Kelloggsville United Methodist Church and the Kelloggsville Heritage Committee. He was a talented woodworker and built his own home. He was an American History buff, and enjoyed gardening, being with his family, and music, especially Country Western and Big Band. He enjoyed working and if he couldn’t find anything to do, he initiated something.

Survivors include his wife, Donna (Parshall) Thompson of Saybrook, whom he married August 7, 1950; two daughters, Sandra (Doug) Bowers of North Kingsville, Ohio, and Judy (Lou) Verdi of Marietta, Ohio; his son, Donald (Suzie) Thompson of Kingsville, Ohio; 16 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren; and nieces, nephews and more distant relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Valinda Lamson; a granddaughter, Lauren Lynn Lamson; five sisters, Cordia Hosick, Mildred Scott, Verna Johnson, Marie Price and Marleah Seppi; and two brothers, Donald Thompson and Douglas Thompson.

Funeral Services will be at 12 p.m., Noon, Thursday, July 11th, at the MARCY FUNERAL HOME, 208 Liberty St., Conneaut, Ohio, with his son-in-law, the Rev. Lou Verdi officiating. Burial will be in Kelloggsville Cemetery, Monroe Township, Ohio.

Calling Hours are Thursday morning from 10 a.m. until the time of the Service at Noon.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made to Hospice of the Western Reserve, 300 East 185th St., Cleveland, Ohio 44119. Envelopes will be available at the Funeral Home.
