ASHTABULA — Clarence L. Harnist, age 92, of W. 48th St., Ashtabula, Ohio, died Friday morning, Nov. 29, 2013, in the Hospice Unit at Ashtabula County Medical Center.

He was born Jan. 6, 1921, in Barberton, Ohio, the son of Herbert V. and Annice (Alford) Harnist and has resided in Ashtabula all of his life other than living in Bradenton, Fla., for 20 years. He and his wife, Betty L. (Adams) Harnist, celebrated 63 years of marriage taking their vows on Oct. 28, 1950, at the First Christian Church in Ashtabula.

Mr. Harnist retired in 1982 from Geneva Contractors, where he worked for 38 years.

He attended the Harvest International Church; was a lifetime member of the Moose Lodge; 66 year member of the East Plymouth Grange; and enjoyed doing ceramics, playing the organ and doing yardwork.

Survivors include his wife, Betty; two sons, Terry L. (Jean) Harnist of Andover and Gary L. Harnist of Ashtabula; a granddaughter, Janette (Daniel) Decker of Pierpont Township; and a sister, Lillian Jennings of W. Springfield, Pa.

He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, William, Frank, Robert and James Harnist; and four sisters, Dorothea Kracker, Mary Thorton, Lucille Bushner and Elizabeth Harnist.

Mrs. Harnist would like to extend her thankfulness to Hospice of the Western Reserve, especially to Michelle Hart, Kim Lagoni, Karen Cowling, Jackie Kohl and David Malone.

Funeral Services will be held 11 a.m., Saturday, Dec. 7th, at the Ashtabula Home of FLEMING & BILLMAN FUNERAL DIRECTORS & CREMATORY, INC., 526 W. Prospect Road, Ashtabula, with the Rev. Duane Ball, of Harvest International Church, officiating. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memory Gardens.

Calling Hours will be held Friday, Dec. 6th, from 3 to 5 p.m. at the Funeral Home.
