ASHTABULA — Albert Smith, age 85, of Jefferson Road, passed away Wednesday, July 24, 2013, at his home.

Albert was born Oct. 13, 1927, in Niles, Ohio, the son of the late Henry O. and Mary Viola (Jones) Smith and moved to Ashtabula when he was 17 years old. On May 31, 1952, he married Ruth Calaway in Decatur, Ind.

Albert served honorably in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict and then worked for Rockwell Brake where he retired in 1986. Albert was an active member of the Plymouth United Methodist Church serving on many committees. He was involved with the Red Bird Missions in Kentucky and CDRM Mission Work where he was involved in constructing handicap ramps.

Albert is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Ruth (Calaway) Smith; children, Bruce (Tracey) Smith and Keith (Tammy) Smith, both of Spotsylvania, Va. and Terry (Julie) Smith of Austinburg, Ohio; and a sister, Pearl Kaster of Bristolville. He is also survived by numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and other rela_tives.

Albert was preceded in death by his parents; children, Shirley McCaughey, Roger Smith and Albert J. Smith Jr.; sister, Isabelle Ruth; and brothers, Ray, Richard, Frederick and Henry.

Funeral Services will be held 1 p.m., Saturday, July 27th, at Plymouth United Methodist Church where Calling Hours will be held from 11 a.m. until the time of Service. The Rev. Johnnie Swann, Pastor, will officiate. Entombment will be in Greenlawn Memory Gardens, North Kingsville.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Hospice of the Western Reserve or Plymouth United Methodist Church. DUCRO FUNERAL SERVICES AND CREMATORY, 4524 Elm Ave., Ashtabula is in charge of arrangements.
