George M. Kapelka, age 85, of Kingsville, passed away Wednesday, April 30, 2014, in the Hospice Unit of Ashtabula County Medical Center from complications of diabetes.
He was born May 18, 1928, in Cleveland, the son of Michael and Catherine (Jelen) Kapelka and had been an area resident most of his life.
Prior to his retirement, he worked as a welder and heavy equipment operator for Conrail at the lower lake docks. A member of St. Andrews Catholic Church, he enjoyed gardening in his early years and still mowing 75 acres of his property.
His survivors include his dear companion, Barb; distant cousins; and many good friends and caregivers, including Fred and Helen Mallory of Pierpont.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
A Calling Hour will be held Saturday, May 3rd, at St. Andrews Catholic Church, 3700 SR 193, Kingsville, from 10 to 11 a.m., with a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 11 a.m. The Rev. John Sheridan, Pastor, will preside. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Conneaut.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Andrews Church or the charity of one’s choice.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to the staff at ACMC, Cleveland Clinic, Ashtabula County Nursing Home, Davita Dialysis, and Hospice of the Western Reserve for the wonderful care given to George during his illness.
