ASHTABULA — Samuel J. Grippe Jr., age 80, of Ashtabula, died Friday, April 11, 2014, at Ashtabula County Medical Center.
Born on May 9, 1933, in Ashtabula, to his parents Sam and Anna (Rocco) Grippe. He married the love of his life, Shirley (Payne) Grippe on June 16, 1956.
He had a love for bowling and playing ball. He even had to turn down the chance to try-out for the Cleveland Indians because he was drafted into the United States military as a paratrooper during the Korean War.
He worked at Sheffield Manufactory for many years and later worked for the sanitation department for the City of Ashtabula where he retired. After retirement, he worked for a few years for his nephew at Great Lakes Auto.
He enjoyed sitting in his recliner watching his westerns and sports. He was a family man and everyone knew it. He loved to make sure we all knew who was boss otherwise he "would get up". He also loved watching his great-grandchildren too (Trey Juhola, Jeremy “J.J.” and Samantha “Sami” Murphy). He made sure they weren't throwing balls in the house or running around.
He is survived by his daughters, Zana Juhola and Julie (Andy) Juhola; his grandchildren, Andria, Danny and Ryan Juhola; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Louis "Fuzzy" Grippe; and his wife, Shirley whom he adored.
Memorial Service will be 6 p.m., Wednesday, April 16th, at GUERRIERO FUNERAL HOME, 1550 W. 19th St., Ashtabula. Visitation will be from 5 to 6 p.m. Wednesday, at the Funeral Home.
