ERIE, Pa. — Stephen R. Cropek, age 66, of Conneaut, Ohio, died Sunday, June 9, 2013, at St. Vincent Health Center in Erie, Pa.
He was born May 29, 1947, in Westfield, N.Y., and was the son of Stephen F. Cropek and Alberta M. (Raynor) Cropek Stillman.
A lifelong Conneaut resident, Steve was employed at The Pittsburgh & Conneaut Dock Company, where he retired after 35 years of service. He had also worked for Dunbar and Sullivan, and the Conneaut Police Department.
Steve was very humble and creative, and enjoyed dancing, listening to music, telling “stories”, gardening, yard work, home improvements, painting houses, and especially working on his model trains. To Steve, his family and friends were absolutely everything to him, and he always said “Life is simple.” He was a registered organ donor and his eyes were donated to the Lions Club of Northwestern PA.
Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Joyce A. (Harke) Cropek; their children, Dawn (Barry) Osburn, Jodi Kantola, Stephanie (Robert) Malena, and Scott Cropek, all of Conneaut; his siblings, Ronald Cropek, Bud (Brenda) Cropek, Roberta Cropek, Lynn (Bob) Couch, Robbie Stillman, Randy Stillman and Danny (Jill) Stillman; nine grandchildren including Dustin Cropek whom he raised as his son; five great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and more distant relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Richard A. Cropek.
Calling Hours will be from 2 to 6 p.m., Wednesday, June 12th, at the MARCY FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATION CENTER, 208 Liberty St., Conneaut, followed by a Gathering at the Cropek home.
