PIERPONT — William Edward Taylor, age 89, passed away Thursday, Jan. 23, 2014, at the home of his son, Allen.
He was born June 18, 1924, in Windsor, the son of James and Flora Mae (Piper) Taylor and had been a lifelong Ashtabula County resident. On Oct. 10, 1947, he married the love of his life, Dorothy Higley, and together they shared 58 wonderful years of marriage prior to her passing on Feb. 25, 2006.
Prior to his retirement, he worked as a lumberjack, operating the W.E. Taylor Lumber Company in Pierpont for 45 years.
A Veteran of the U.S. Army, he served during World War II with the Darby’s Rangers, 3rd Battalion and spent 15 months as a POW in Germany. He was proud of his service and grateful he was able to connect with several veterans with whom he had served in his later years.
A member of Ohio Valley Chapter #6 of the Battalions Association, World War II, and the National Horse Pulling Association, he loved pulling horses and the outdoors. He attended state and county fairs throughout the eastern half of the United States with his horses.
He will be truly missed by his family and friends who loved him dearly.
His survivors include two children, Carol (Thomas) Renshaw of Gilbert, Ariz. and Allen (Mary Jo) Taylor of Kingsville; four grandchildren, Jodi Stiles, John Keller, Angela Brown and William Taylor; and six great-grandchildren, Cinnamon, Travis, Tiffany, Taylor, Veronica and Adam.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy (Higley) Taylor; one sister, Ruby Taylor; five brothers, Charles, Wayne, Robert, James Jr. and Terry; and his parents.
Calling Hours will be from 2 to 4 p.m., Sunday, Jan. 26th, at CHILDS & WILLIAMS FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 96 SR 7, Pierpont, Ohio.
A Service will be held 11 a.m., Monday, Jan. 27th, at Pierpont Presbyterian Church, 71 SR 7, Pierpont, with Pastor Dustin Leimgruber officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Pierpont, with Full Military Honors.
