Hilda A. Waid, age 83, of Ashtabula, passed away peacefully on Saturday, Oct. 13, 2012, at Pine Valley Care Center in Richfield, Ohio.
Born Dec. 21, 1928, in Ashtabula, she was the daughter of John and Emma (Maki) Sironen, and was a lifelong area resident. She married the love of her life John C. Waid on August 21, 1948.
Hilda worked for Buckeye Schools for over 20 years; she mainly spent her time working in the cafeteria at Ridgeview Elementary School.
Hilda was a member of the Bethany Lutheran Church where she was active in earlier years. She was also a Lifetime member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the VFW Post #943. In her spare time, she loved doing yard work, gardening in her flower gardens, and spending time with her children and grandchildren.
She is survived by her sons, Ronald (Lynn) Waid of Richfield, Ohio and John (Renee) Waid of Ashtabula; daughter, Cynthia (Manfred) Hoerr of Carol Stream, Ill.; sister, Esther Wright; grandchildren, Jenna and Michael Waid; and several nieces and nephews.
Hilda was preceded in death by her husband, John on Dec. 19, 1980; her sisters, Lina “Marie” Graves and Betty Craft; niece, Judy Reed; and her parents.
A Private Graveside Service for Hilda and John will take place on Monday, Oct. 22nd, at Edgewood Cemetery, State Road, Ashtabula, with the Rev. Karen Tews officiating. Military Honors for John will be provided by American Legion Post #103.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her name to the Pine Valley Care Center Activities Fund, 4360 Brecksville Road, Richfield, Ohio 44286. DUCRO FUNERAL SERVICES AND CREMATORY, 4524 Elm Ave., Ashtabula, is handling arrangements.
