ASHTABULA — Michael Hanselman, age 97, of Cleveland Ave., Ashtabula, died Saturday, June 14, 2014, at Country Club Retirement Campus.
He was born Feb. 24, 1917, in Pittsburgh, Pa., the son of Fred and Minnie (Caminsky) Hanselman. He married Olga Cavic on Oct. 5, 1940, and they moved to Ashtabula in 1954.
He had worked on Union Dock for Jones & Laughlin and then LTV Steel until his retirement after 40 years in 1980.
He was an avid reader and was a past president of the Amateur Weatherman’s Club. He enjoyed classical music but most of all loved spending time with his family.
Surviving him are five sons, Fred (Lori) Hanselman of Puerto Rico, William Hanselman of Kinsman, Mickey (Fran) Hanselman of Ashtabula, David (Linda) Hanselman of South Carolina and Rick (Diane) Hanselman of Westerville, Ohio; five daughters, Barbara (Joseph) Linney of Washington, Christine (David) Triozzi of Ashtabula, Kathy (David Obrin) Walters of Bratenahl, Ohio, Deborah (Mike) Penna of Ashtabula and Terri (Steve) McGunigall of Richmond, Ind.; 21 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and by his wife, Olga Hanselman in 2008.
A Memorial Service will be 11 a.m., Thursday, June 19th, at the Ashtabula Home of FLEMING & BILLMAN FUNERAL DIRECTORS AND CREMATORY, 526 W. Prospect Road, Ashtabula, with Alisa Nierzejewski, certified celebrant, officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery in Saybrook Township.
Calling Hour will be from 10 a.m. until time of Service, Thursday, at the Funeral Home.
