NEW PORT RICHEY, Fla. —
From the Halls of Montezuma to the Shores of Lake Erie, Joseph Eugene Keefe Sr. served his country.
In 1953, a young Joe Keefe left Philadelphia to travel the world as a United States Marine. The Marine Corps allowed him to visit Europe, North Africa, the Far East, and the South Pacific. When Joe served in Vietnam, his family lived in Dorset, Ohio. When his service took him to Okinawa, again his family lived in Dorset. By the time Joe retired from the Marine Corps, his roots had already been firmly planted in Northeast Ohio.
Young Joe Keefe became “Pappa Joe” as a 25-year member of the Ashtabula County Sheriff’s Department. Pappa Joe served Ashtabula County proudly until his retirement in 2000, but retirement did not slow him. Pappa Joe continued to serve as a leader on Lagoon Drive, New Port Richey, Fla., as well as with the Marine Corps League, and past commander of Ashtabula VFW Post #943.
