Georganna (Jan) Bidlack, of Geneva, Ohio passed away peacefully at home May 6, 2014.
She was born Feb. 2, 1925, near Bellefontaine, Ohio, the daughter of George and Zylpha Schurr.
She married Virgil Bidlack in 1948. Dr. Bidlack was an optometrist in Geneva. Georganna graduated from Bowling Green State University. Georganna taught home economics in Lewistown, Ohio and also at Madison High School. She attended Lake Erie College to get her certification in art education, and taught art at the Geneva Area Elementary Schools, retiring in 1994.
During the 1950’s, she was home service director of the Lake Shore Gas Company and was director and demonstrator of the Homemaker’s Program on WMC television in Memphis, Tenn., and Cooking with Jan on WEWS television in Cleveland. Georganna held memberships in the Progressive Literary Club of Geneva, Lake Shore Artists, Friends of the Library and Geneva Retired Teachers. Her hobbies included painting, reading, writing and swimming. An active environmentalist, she frequently wrote letters to the editor and to legislators.
Georganna is survived by her son, Todd Bidlack of Gahanna, Ohio, his children, Dan and Amy, and his granddaughter, Maria; and by her daughter, Nancy Bires of Sandy Lake, Pa., her husband, Fran, and children, Anna Kate and Benjamin.
She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Zylpha Schurr; her husband, Virgil Bidlack; and her brother, Dr. Karl Max Schurr.
Jan Bidlack lived life to the fullest and will be greatly missed by family and friends.
There will be no funeral or calling hours.
A celebration of life is scheduled at the Ashtabula Art Center in Ashtabula, Ohio on Saturday, June 14th from 1 to 4 p.m.
Donations may be given to the Ashtabula Arts Center, 2928 W. 13th St., Ashtabula, Ohio 44004, in honor of her lifelong devotion to the arts, or Stray Haven Animal Shelter, 94 Donation Road, Greenville, Pa. 16152, in honor of her profound love for all animals, especially her Chihuahua, Oliver.
