DOVER — Eleanor Mae Nichols, age 81, of Dover, passed away Friday, Dec. 27, 2013, in Union Hospital at Dover following a period of declining health.

Born in Ashtabula on Dec. 4, 1932, she was the daughter of the late Michael and Mary (Bartone) Rose.

Elly’s professional career spanned numerous years at GTE. She also greatly enjoyed her involvement with the Union Hospital Auxiliary and the Tuscarawas Duplicate Bridge Club.

Elly will be deeply missed by her husband whom she married in 1975, Arthur Nichols Jr.; daughters, Pamela (Kevin) Riley of Dover, Paula (Lewis) Cross of Willoughby Hills, Peggy Kellogg of Dover and Patty Page Applebee of Massillon; step-sons, Ralph (Marilyn) Nichols of Kansas and Patrick G. Nichols of Philadelphia, Pa.; step-daughter, Chantel Vega of Texas; brothers, Joseph (Wanda) and Michael (Lee) Rose Jr., both of Ashtabula; sister, Margaret Mello of Ashtabula; grandchildren, Bryn (Frank) Kosec, Abby (Jeff) Brown, Lewis Jr. and Mary Rose Cross, Nicole Kellogg and William Applebee Jr.; seven great-grandchildren; step-grandchildren, Meredith and John Arthur Nichols, and Miranda and McCauley Nichols; and two step-great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, Elly was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Erin; brothers, Ralph Rose and Edward Ruscitti; and sisters, Dorothy Hayes, Theresa Rose and Jenny Briggs.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, Dec. 31st, in the GEIB FUNERAL CENTER at Dover from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. Deacon Ron Fondriest will officiate a Service beginning at 2:30 p.m. A meal will follow the Service in the hospitality room at the Geib Funeral Center.
