CONNEAUT — Viola E. “Vi” Chandler, age 96, of Conneaut, Ohio, passed away Thursday morning, Oct. 31, 2013, at UH-Conneaut Medical Center.
She was born Sept. 20, 1917, to John E. Rauha and Fanny (Kleemola) Rauha in Conneaut.
She graduated in 1934 from Conneaut High School with Very Special Honors and also graduated from Spencerian Business College in Cleveland. She did secretarial work with Carr Liggett Advertising in Cleveland.
Vi married Arthur J. Chandler on Nov. 9, 1940, in Cleveland and lived there for 40 years, moving back to Conneaut in 1990.
She was a third generation member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church. She enjoyed music, was an avid reader, and was a member of Friends of the Library for many years. She was also an American Red Cross Gray Lady at Brown Memorial Hospital for 10 years.
Survivors include five nieces and nephews, Ann Christopher of Columbus, Ohio, John Christopher of Strongsville, Ohio, Laura (Michael) Laughlin of Johnstown, Ohio, Julie (James) Gibb of Conneaut, Ohio and Jack (Laura) Christopher of Cleveland, Ohio; and two great nieces, Emily (Gerald) Hazzard and Molly (Kevin) Keller.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband in 1981; sons, Mark in 1954 and Jeffrey in 1967; and her sister, Ruth Christopher in 2004.
There will be a Memorial Service at 10 a.m., Saturday, Nov. 9th, at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Lake Road and Grove St., Conneaut, with Pastor Franklin J. Gore officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Park, North Olmsted, Ohio, at the family’s convenience.
For those who wish, memorial contributions may be made to the Capital Improvement Endowment Fund of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church. Envelopes will be available at the church or at the MARCY FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATION CENTER, 208 Liberty St., Conneaut, which has charge of arrangements.
