WARREN — Catherine M. Bieniek, age 98, of Orwell, Ohio, formerly of Smock, Pa., passed away on Sunday, Oct. 6, 2013, at Windsor House at Champion, Warren, Ohio.
She was born in Dearth, Pa. on May 18, 1915, the daughter of the late Frank and Pauline (Slanina) Maykuth.
Catherine was a member of St. Mary's R.C. Church, Orwell, Ohio and a former member of St. Hedwig R.C. Church, Smock, Pa., where she was the founding President of the Christian Mothers. She was a Daughter of Mary at St. Mary's and for many years was a Volunteer for the American Red Cross Blood Drives.
She and her husband, Joseph, owned and operated the Bieniek Dairy Bar in Smock for many years. She loved playing cards, bingo and watching the Pittsburgh Steelers.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Joseph John Bieniek in 1962; a son, Joseph Stanley Bieniek in 1999; a granddaughter, Catherine Ann Pompura in 1991; and brothers, John S. Maykuth Sr. in 1998 and Joseph F. Maykuth Sr. in 2001; and sisters, Marie Maykuth Kohl in 1948, Ann Halvonik in 1979, Pauline Sajna in 2002 and Veronica Carothers Halvonik in 2005. Catherine was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Left to cherish her memory are daughters, Pamela Marie Pompura of Painesville, Ohio and Karen Ann Fletcher and husband Robert of Warren, Ohio; five grandsons, Robert J. Fletcher and wife Theresa, Bradley Joseph Pompura, Patrick Fletcher, Eric Bieniek and wife Joanna and Jonathan Bieniek; four great-grandchildren, Kevin Fletcher, Ella Bieniek, Marlee Bieniek and Joseph Gregory Bieniek; and daughter-in-law, Sandra Malinzak Bieniek of Uniontown, Pa.
Friends will be received at St. John the Baptist R.C. Church, Perryopolis, Pa. on Wednesday, Oct. 9th, from 9:30 until 11:00 a.m. when a Mass of Christian Burial will be held with Fr. Anthony W. Ditto and Fr. Edwin Wickman as Concelebrants. Burial will follow in St. Hedwig Cemetery, Smock, Pa. Peace Meal follows at Smock Community Center, Smock, Pa.
