NORTH KINGSVILLE — Virginia R. Gromacki, age 88, of North Kingsville, died Thursday, Sept. 26, 2013, at Saybrook Landing Nursing Home.
Virginia was born Nov. 29, 1924, in Orange, Calif., the daughter of Herman and Martina (Adoit) Myers. She was a graduate from Fullerton High School class of 1942.
Virginia began working at the telephone company as a switchboard operator and later as Supervisor. She married her husband Chester P. Gromacki on Jan. 18, 1947 and they began to raise their family in Southern California. She was a member of St. Mary Church in Fullerton, Calif. Virginia volunteered many hours at St. Jude’s Hospital in Fullerton, Calif. and later was asked to head the switchboard operations of the hospital.
Virginia and Chester were avid boaters and sail boaters. They sailed for many years to various ports around the world. She also loved to do artwork and became an ardent knitter. Virginia was a member of the Needlework Guild in Fullerton, and she donated many pieces of her work to the needy over the years.
Virginia is survived by her husband of 66 years, Dr. Chester P. Gromacki, of North Kingsville; a son, Larry and Fran Gromacki of Conneaut; a daughter, Debra Lynn and William Blych of Canyon Lake, Calif.; and two grandchildren, Brandon Blych and Jason Gromacki.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Don Gromacki; and a sister, Betty Jo Gulman.
At the family’s request, no services will be held.
