ASHTABULA — Samantha Trotter, age 91, of Hope Ave., passed away Thursday, March 21, 2013, at Country Club Retirement Center.

She was born Jan. 4, 1922, in Heidelberg, Miss., the daughter of Will and Mentha (McDonald) Taylor and had been an Ashtabula resident since 1947.

A part of the original founding group of Peoples Baptist Church, she enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles and word searches, and vegetable and flower gardening. Her home was always surrounded with dozens of varieties of marigolds. She also enjoyed cooking and took great pride in sending food home with family and friends whenever they would come to visit. Her peach cobbler was a family favorite. Everyone knew certain  times of the day she was not to be interrupted and that was when Jeopardy, Wheel of Fortune, Price is Right and Dancing with the Stars were on. She also loved to watch the celebrities any time they stepped on the red carpet, with Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson being one of her favorites, even when he was wrestling.

Her survivors include five children, Marva Trotter, Chasper “Chaz” Trotter Jr. and D’Metre “Dino” Trotter, all of Ashtabula, Anita (Mikal) El-Amin of  Phoeniz, Ariz. and Marquetta (Joe) Trotter-Miller of Sacramento, Calif.; two grandchildren, Jacques “J.J.” (Lisa) Bolivar and Aishah Rashid; two sisters, Savannah McGill of Laurel, Miss. and Mattie Lee Nixon of Heidelberg, Miss.; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Chasper Trotter Sr. on Sept. 29, 1998; four sisters, Emma Dase, Betty Price, Maggie Gilmore and Willie Mae Nixon; five brothers, Lucius, Odis, Travis, Charlie, and Billy Samuel “B.S.” Taylor; and her parents.
