PIERPONT — Roger Bernard Schilling, age 71, passed away Wednesday, March 27, 2013, at his home.
Born April 20, 1941, in Cleveland, he was the son of George and Helen (Sperk) Schilling, and was a resident of Pierpont for 37 years. On Oct. 2, 1965, he married Virginia (Kobus) Schilling and God blessed their marriage with three children.
Roger served honorably in the U.S. Air Force from 1959 to 1963. He then went on to work as a pipefitter in commercial construction and was a member of the Pipefitters Local Union 120 in Cleveland.
One of Frank Sinatra’s biggest fans, he was an avid hunter, loved classic cars, enjoyed art (especially drawing), loved to tinker, and could fix anything. He also built the additions on his house by himself and had constructed a log cabin without the use of any power tools. He and his wife had also raised nearly every farm animal you could think of.
He attended St. Joseph Calasanctius Catholic Church in Jefferson.
Survivors include his wife, Virginia; three children, Roger Adam (Patricia) Schilling of Conneaut, Eva Marie Helscel of North Royalton and Deborah (Eiji) Matsumoto of Encino, Calif.; eight grandchildren, John, Joe, Matthew, Heather, Elena, Anna, Jamie and Julie; sister, Georgeanne Schilling of Indiana; and his 14 year-old dog and love of his life - Sweet Pea.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, David and Walter; and a sister, Kathy Kassaw.
A Funeral Mass will celebrated 11 a.m., Tuesday, April 2nd, at St. Joseph Calasanctius Catholic Church, 32 E. Jefferson St., Jefferson, with Fr. Ernesto Rodriguez presiding. Burial will be in Oakdale Cemetery with Full Military Honors.
Calling Hours will be from 5 to 8 p.m., Monday, April 1st, at CHILDS & WILLIAMS FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 96 State Route 7, Pierpont.
