MADISON — Arend Jan van’t Veer, age 77, formerly of Ashtabula, passed away Friday, Feb. 1, 2013, at Broadfield Manor.
He was born in Holland on Oct. 21, 1935, the son of the late Willem Cornelis and Annigje (van der Zaan) van’t Veer. He moved to the United States in 1962 and had lived in Ashtabula since 1969.
Arend enjoyed gardening, cooking, eating, visiting classic car shows and going on long car rides. Prior to coming to the United States, he served in the Dutch Navy and lived in Australia and Indonesia.
He is survived by his three children, Erik (Jodi) van’t Veer, Dina van’t Veer and Jeremy van’t Veer; grandchildren, Rachel, Erika and Kristen; and sister-in-law, Ali van’t Veer. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews in Australia and Holland.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Cornelis, Eimert, Willem Cornelis Jr. and Marinus; sister, Berendina “Dina” Marie; and a grandson, Richard Jan van’t Veer.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 5th, at DUCRO FUNERAL SERVICES AND CREMATORY, 4524 Elm Ave., Ashtabula, followed by a Prayer Service at 7 p.m.
