MONROE TOWNSHIP — Charlene G. Barker, age 83, of Monroe Township, Ohio, passed from this life Friday evening, Feb. 1, 2013, surrounded by her family in song at the Ashtabula County Nursing Home, Kingsville, Ohio.

She was born Sept. 1, 1929, in Plymouth Township, Ohio, the daughter of Lyle and Thelma (Rose) Hall.

Charlene was a dedicated follower of the Lord Jesus Christ, whom she served enthusiastically throughout her life. The legacy she leaves continually points her family and friends to the God she found eternally faithful. Charlene was an active member of Kelloggsville Church of the Nazarene where she served as missionary president, vacation Bible school director, organist, choir member, and floral decorator. She also attended South Ridge Baptist Church and State Line United Methodist Church where she led children’s church and choir. Charlene was passionate about pointing others to Christ. She and her late husband, Melvin, hosted Good News Club in the basement of their home where they worked together to prepare a place for children to learn about their Savior.

Other interests include genealogy, crocheting, traveling and camping. Charlene treasured her family; and her family treasured her. She will be greatly missed.

Survivors include her son John M. (Kim) Barker Jr. of Kelloggsville; three daughters, Charla (Henry) Hayes of Monroe Township, Jan (Chuck) Furmage of Kingsville and Marcella (Ron) Maurer of Kelloggsville; two sisters, Ruthella Morse of Ashtabula and Kathleen (Fred) Brown of Conneaut; 17 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren. 

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of thirty-nine years, J. Melvin Barker in 1987; a granddaughter, McKenzie Maxine Barker; two sisters, Genevieve Antilla and Marian Franklin; and a brother, Burton Hall.

Funeral Service will be 1 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 5th, at Kelloggsville Church of the Nazarene, 4841 St. Rt. 84, Monroe Township, Ohio, with Pastor Les Bolen officiating. Burial will follow in Kelloggsville Cemetery.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m., TODAY, Feb. 4th, at MARCY FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATION CENTER, 208 Liberty St., Conneaut, Ohio, and also on Tuesday, at the Church from 12 Noon until the time of Service.
