ASHTABULA — Gus Koren, age 66, of Arthur Road, Plymouth Township, Ohio, died Friday, Jan. 4, 2013, at the Ashtabula County Medical Center.

Born April 4, 1946, in Kent, Pa., he was the son of the late Julius and Velma (Green) Koren. A Veteran, he served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam Era.

He was currently working at the Ashtabula Home Depot at the Pro-Desk.

He was a lifetime member of Santee, Calif., VFW Post #9327 and a member of MOC at Geneva VFW Post #6846. He enjoyed woodworking, fishing and hunting.

Surviving are his wife, Darla, whom he married Feb. 19, 1977; six children, Victoria (Wayne) Racine of Lake Elsinore, Calif., Joseph (Samantha) Bina of Lakeside, Calif., Jeffery (Leslie) Bina of Honolulu, Hawaii, Ann Marie (Antonio) Araujo of Boston, Mass., Dale Koren of San Diego, Calif., and Wayne (Christina) Koren of El Cajon, Calif.; 11 grandchildren; and seven brothers and sisters, Carol (Ruben) Cantu of Tennessee, Catherine Robertson of Geneva, Greg (Barb) Koren of Geneva, Gale (Buzz) Furman of Geneva, Janice (Brian) Winters of Jefferson, Danette (Ken) Kaeger of Mentor and Eric Locke of Geneva.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his step-father, Dale Locke; and a brother, Dale Locke.

A Celebration of his Life will be 3 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 12th, at the Geneva VFW Post #6846, Depot St., Geneva, Ohio.

Memorial contributions in his memory can be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
