WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. — Billy E. Van Gilder Jr., age 55, of West Lafayette, Ind., passed away early Saturday morning, June 29, 2013, at St. Elizabeth East Hospital.
Born Jan. 5, 1958, in Ashtabula, Ohio, he was the son of Billy E. Van Gilder Sr. and Lonnie (Hamilton) Van Gilder of Ashtabula, Ohio. Billy graduated from Ashtabula High School and attended Kent State University and the Erie Institute of Technology.
A Veteran, he honorably served in the U.S. Marine Corp. from 1976 to 1978. He worked as an electrician for IBEW Local 668.
He loved watching sports, especially horse racing and football. He loved his grandchildren.
Surviving with his parents are his children, Stephanie Blenman (husband, Michael) of Ashtabula, Ohio, and Kyle Van Gilder (fiancée, Ashley Henderson) of West Lafayette; three sisters, Cathy Capone (husband, Tom) of Youngstown, Ohio, Brenda Jerauld (husband, Gary) of North Kingsville, Ohio, and Kelly Kern (husband, Dave) of Jefferson, Ind.; four grandchildren, Tyler and Makayla Blenman and Karston and Hayden Van Gilder; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Kenny Van Gilder.
