GIG HARBOR, Wash. — Ingrid E. Philley, age 86, died on Sunday, Feb. 2, 2014, in Gig Harbor, Wash.
She was born in April 1927, in the Ipanema neighborhood of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, to German parents, Charlotte and Louis Jone. She spent nine years in Brazil before moving to Germany just before the outbreak of World War II. She graduated from the College of Bruanschweig and spent a practicum year at Children’s Hospital – Bruanschweig as a lab tech.
In 1950, Ingrid immigrated to Sharon, Pa., where she worked at Sharon General Hospital. Later, she took a job as a laboratory technician at Brown Memorial Hospital in Conneaut, Ohio. While working there, she met her future husband, Bill Philley. They were married in January 1956.
After well over thirty years there, Ingrid retired from Brown Memorial in 1987. She then became Bill’s primary provider after he suffered a series of strokes. After his death, Ingrid moved to Oregon and then Washington State to be closer to her son and his family.
Ingrid was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Rulfwerner; and her husband, Bill.
She is survived by her son, Pete and his wife, Monica, and their children, Maddie and Patrick.
