ASHTABULA — Ronald Eugene Newsome, age 64, of Carriage Hill Road, passed away Tuesday, August 27, 2013, at the home of his daughter, Amy, following an extended battle with cancer.

He was born Oct. 28, 1948, in McDowell, Ky., the son of Chester and Palestine (Newsom) Newsome and had been an Ashtabula resident most of his life.

A registered nurse for 25 years, he worked at UH-Geneva Medical Center, Manor Home of Geneva, and Jefferson Geriatric Center. Ron was a truly compassionate nurse and loved his nursing career.

Mr. Newsome attended Lily of the Valley, Old Regular Baptist Church and the Pentecostal Church of God; and enjoyed Bible study and reading scripture. He loved the Lord, was kind and generous, and was happiest spending time with his grandchildren and being with family and friends. He loved to remind everyone that, “Nothing good happens after 10 PM”. A wise man, he enjoyed sharing his words of wisdom with those to whom he was closest.

His survivors include three children, Ronald Anthony Newsome of Bowling Green, Ohio, Amy Carol Jakowlew of Ashtabula and Ryan Kyle Newsome of Ashtabula, and their mother, Joyce Newsome of Ashtabula; five grandchildren, Alyssa Lampela, Tyler Vines, Andrew “A.J.” Jakowlew, Samuel Peggs and Erianna Newsome; seven siblings, Carlotta (Robert) Schlick of Dunnellon, Fla., Randy (Betty) Newsome of Beverly Hills, Fla., Janette (Chuck) Davis of Ashtabula, Roger D. (Gloria) Newsome of Ashtabula, Fred Newsome of Madison, Carl Newsome of Westlake and Sandra (Ken) Whitlock of Ashtabula; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, Ricky W., Michael Ray and Gary Newsome; one sister, Janet McCracken; and his parents.

A Calling Hour for family and friends will be held from 6 to 7 p.m. with a Service to follow at 7 p.m. on Thursday, August 29th, at the DUCRO FUNERAL SERVICES AND CREMATORY, 4524 Elm Ave., Ashtabula. The Rev. Kenneth Roberts, Pastor of Pentecostal Church of God, will officiate.
