ASHTABULA — Carlos V. Capp, age 93, passed away peacefully Friday, Dec. 27, 2013, at home surrounded by his loving family.
Born Feb. 19, 1920, in Ashtabula, Ohio, the son of the late Gus and Lydia (Jokilehto) Capp, Carlos graduated from Harbor High School in the class of 1938. He spent his life in Ashtabula, but also spent many years living in South Florida.
Carlos was a U.S. Army Veteran, serving his country from 1942-1945 in the South Pacific. He was a part of the 37th Infantry Division, and was awarded a Bronze Star for his outstanding service in the military. He met the love of his life on Christmas Day in 1945, on Sept. 21, 1946, he married his love, Genevieve J. Narducci. They spent 65 wonderful years together before her passing in 2012.
Mr. Capp was a talented carpenter and builder. He owned and operated C.V. Capp & Son, general contractors, building custom homes in Ohio and Florida. His career spanned from 1958 until his retirement in 1995. He was an active member of the Messiah Lutheran Church.
Carlos loved to sing. He sang in the church choir at Bethany and Messiah Lutheran Church and with the Town Choir in Ashtabula. He also performed in the “Green Door Follies” variety show and as a soloist for many special occasions and events. Over the years, he participated in local and national competitions. Carlos loved barbershop music, singing with the Barbershop Quartet and Barbershop Chorus. Carlos was also part of the Ashtabula Community Players and performed in local theater. He played the lead role in the musical South Pacific.
Carlos was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Genevieve; sister, Ione North; and his parents.
He is survived by his son, Dennis (Brenda) Capp of Ashtabula; daughter, Nancy (Paul) Oliver of Wayne, Pa.; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
A Graveside Service will be held 2 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 29th, at Greenlawn Memory Gardens, 3140 E. Center St., North Kingsville, with the Rev. Michael Meranda officiating. Military honors will be performed by the American Legion Post #151.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his name to the Messiah Lutheran Foundation, 615 W. Prospect, Ashtabula, Ohio 44004, or to the Ashtabula Township Fire Department, 2718 N.
