PIERPONT — Gordon Wilford Brockett, 96, formerly of Turner Road, Pierpont, Ohio, passed away Sunday, Dec. 15, 2013, at Saybrook Landing.
He was born March 9, 1917, in Pierpont, the son of Ray and Alma (Strock) Brockett and had been a resident of Pierpont his entire life and wintered in Florida for 20 years.
He graduated from Pierpont High School and spent his entire working life as a farmer. He married the love of his life, Alma Jean Spencer, on March 23, 1940, and they spent 56 wonderful years together before she died.
Gordon served on the Pierpont School Board and Board of Director for the Farm Bureau Coop (Landmark). A member of the Pierpont Presbyterian Church, he held numerous offices within the church.
He enjoyed his dogs and raccoon hunting, and loved to play checkers with his son, Roger. He was also an accomplished shuffleboard player and won numerous trophies during his years in Florida.
His survivors include one daughter, Dian Britton of Ashland; four sons, Eugene (Janet) Brockett and Roger (Gail) Brockett, both of Pierpont, Bruce (Sharon) Brockett of Deerfield and Gary Brockett of Chagrin Falls; 12 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Alma Jean Brockett on April 21, 1996; one son in infancy; his daughter-in-law, Susan Brockett in 2013; two sisters, Helen Thomas and Leta Brockett; and his parents.
A Calling Hour will be held 10 to 11 a.m., Wednesday, Dec. 18th, with a 11 a.m. Service to follow at the Pierpont Presbyterian Church, 71 Route 7, Pierpont, Ohio. Pastor Dustin Leimgruber will officiate. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery.
