ASHTABULA — Frank Ronald Clayman, age 76, of Ashtabula, died Saturday, Dec. 14, 2013, at his residence.

The son of Elmer and Winifred (Jackman) Clayman Sr., he was born in Kingsville, Ohio, on April 17, 1937 and had remained a lifelong area resident.

On June 8, 1957, he married Barbara Vettel and together they celebrated fifty-six years of love and memories.

Frank retired in 1991 from the Ashtabula City Fire Department with twenty-eight years of service. He had achieved the rank of Captain and was a well-respected member of the department.

A man of many interests and talents, Frank liked to do it all. From camping with his family, to hunting and fishing and tending his vegetable garden his interests were many and varied. His sports activities included golf and bowling, where received an award for the perfect 300 game. Frank was a wonderful artist working in oils and was also talented in woodworking. His many projects over the years gave him great satisfaction and enjoyment.

A fan of the Cleveland Indians and Cleveland Browns, he always remained optimistic that they would have winning seasons.

Frank will be remembered for his devotion to duty as a fireman, his love of family and friends, and his deep faith.

He is survived by his loving wife, Barbara Clayman of Ashtabula; his beloved children, Michael J. (Joann) Clayman of South Carolina, Frank P. (Sandra) Clayman of Ashtabula, Colleen (Ken) Wheeler of Jefferson and Diane (Tim) Armstrong of Tennessee; 10 beloved grandchildren; and six precious great-grandchildren; his sister, Alice (Bill) Hochschild of Kingsville; many loving nieces and nephews; and his mother-in-law, Mrs. Ed Vettel of Florida.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and his siblings, Irene Luce, Elmer “Bud” Clayman Jr. and Lewis Clayman.

A Mass of the Resurrection will be held 10 a.m., Wednesday, Dec. 18th, at Our Lady of Peace Parish, St. Joseph worship site, Lake Ave., Ashtabula, with the Rev. Raymond Thomas presiding. Entombment will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Carpenter Road, Ashtabula.

No calling hours will be observed.
