ASHTABULA — Jeffrey L. Ecklund, age 54, died unexpectedly at his home on Sunday morning, April 21, 2013.
He was born in Ashtabula, Ohio, on Dec. 7, 1958, the son of Norman “Bud” and Dorothy (Ruohonen) Ecklund. He was a proud graduate of Harbor High School, Class of 1977 and graduated from Kent State with his degree in Business Management. On Dec. 30, 2003, he married Cheryl L. Bort, his loving wife of almost 10 years.
Jeff was a lifelong member of Zion Lutheran Church. He loved the Cleveland Indians and Browns. He enjoyed the outdoors, woodworking, lawn care and golfing. He was a loving and dedicated husband and son and was always there to help his parents.
He is survived by his wife, Cheryl, and his parents, Bud and Dorothy Ecklund, all of Ashtabula; his aunts, Esther Kish of Cleveland and Elona (David) Hoffman of Ashtabula; his father-in-law, William Bort of Conneaut; his sisters-in-law, Rebecca (Richard) Gaugh of Conneaut, Deborah (Endil) Moore of Alaska and Gloria (Rick) Austin of Ashtabula; his brother-in-law, Matthew (Sue) Bort of N. Ridgeview; his nephew, K. R. (Danielle) Ecklund of Florida; as well as two great-nieces and one great-nephew.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Kip E. Ecklund.
Calling Hours will be held from 6 to 8 p.m.,TODAY, Thursday, April 25th, in the FLEMING & BILLMAN FUNERAL HOME, 526 W. Prospect Road, Ashtabula and from 9 to 10 a.m. on Friday morning, April 26th, prior to the Funeral at the Zion Lutheran Church, 2310 W. 9th St., Ashtabula.
The Funeral will begin at 10 a.m. Friday morning at the Church. Burial will follow in Edgewood Cemetery.
Memorial contributions can be made in his name to Zion Lutheran Church; envelopes will be available at the Funeral Home.
