WAUSEON — Lester E. Bishop, age 92, of Wauseon, Ohio, and formerly of Geneva and Columbus, passed away on Saturday, June 8, 2013, at his daughter’s home.
He was born Feb. 7, 1921, to Elmer and Bertha (Jones) Bishop. He married Irma (Mills) Bishop in 1952 and she preceded him in death in 1991.
Growing up, Lester was involved in 4-H and attended school in near Newark, Ohio, until leaving to help on his uncle’s farm near Granville, Ohio. He was a bricklayer by trade, helping build numerous local businesses, retiring in the mid 80’s.
He was a member of the Indianola Church of Christ, the Local 423 Laborers International Union, and was a lifetime member and supporter of the Capitol City Chapter of the Izaack Walton League in Columbus, Ohio.
After his wife, Irma, passed, Lester moved back to his farming roots on a family farm in Geneva, Ohio. There he thrived by growing a huge annual garden, sharing his produce with friends, growing hay and caring for llamas. When the farm was too much to handle he moved to his daughter’s home.
In addition to his parents and wife, Lester was preceded in death by his son, Jack; and brother, Fred Bishop.
Survivors include his daughter, Joy Bishop-Forshey of Wauseon; sisters, Annabelle Phiffer of St. Louisville, Ohio, and Wynonna Collins of Granville, Ohio; grandsons, Brandon Forshey, DVM and Brady Forshey; and other relatives and friends.
The Funeral Service will be held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, June 12th, at RUTHERFORD FUNERAL HOME, 2383 North High St., Columbus, where friends may call from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday, prior to the service.
