John E. Bargielski

ASHTABULA — John E. Bargielski, age 61, of Ashtabula, Ohio, passed away at his home on Monday, Dec. 30, 2013, following a short battle with cancer.

The son of Richard J. and Teresa (Lombardo) Bargielski, he was born in Moses Lake, Wash., on March 20, 1952. As a young child, he and his family moved to Erie, Pa., where he graduated from Academy High School in 1970. John continued his education at Edinboro University of Pennsylvania where he earned his Bachelor of Arts in Psychology in 1975.

While working as an officer of security and loss prevention at Hill’s Department Store, he met his wife Lisa Pelton. They married on July 20, 1985, and together they celebrated twenty-eight years of love and laughter.

John was a deputy for the Ashtabula County Sheriff’s Department for twenty-three years, where he was a member of the SWAT Team and was Employee of the Year in 1986. After his first retirement in 2003, he could not remain idle, and in 2005 he went to work for Ashtabula County Children Services Board as an investigator. John made it his goal in life to serve those around him and protect those who could not protect themselves. He also worked for three years at Lowe’s of Ashtabula.

John will be remembered for his incredible work ethic and commitment in giving back to the community, his devotion to duty and to those who needed him; and his unconditional love and support of his friends and family, all values which he instilled in his sons.

John is survived by his loving wife, Lisa; three sons, Richard of Berea, Ohio, and Michael and Matthew, both of Ashtabula; father, Richard J. Bargielski of Erie, Pa.; and various nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles; and his favorite in-laws, Bud and Shirley Pelton of Ashtabula.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Teresa Bargielski in 2008; and his sister, Beth Marie Fromknecht in 1988.
