JEFFERSON — May is Fraud Awareness Month and the Ashtabula County Department of Job and Family Services is promoting awareness of public assistance fraud in the community.

The department is committed to preventing and detecting fraud in public assistance programs and strives to ensure that all who are eligible for assistance are receiving accurate food, cash and Medicaid benefits.

The Ohio Department of Job and Family Services disbursed about $3 billion in SNAP food assistance, $300 million in Ohio Works First cash assistance, $600 million in child care subsidies and $1.8 billion in state and federal unemployment compensation.
