Carson and Barnes Circus to return to Geneva

GENEVA — Send in the clowns! The Carson and Barnes Circus will return to Geneva July 11 and 12, event coordinator Vicki D’Orazio said, bringing more fun and excitement in the big top.

“These are the best two hour shows you can imagine,” D’Orazio said. “This is our fourth time hosting the Carson and Barnes Circus and we are very excited.”

D’Orazio said she hopes the weekend shows will entice tourists from the lake to visit the circus.

“We are very hopeful for sold-out shows,” she said.

The charity circus will benefit Boy Scout Troop 750, The Pairings Wine and Culinary Center, the Madison Food Bank, the Ashtabula County Animal Protective League and the Geneva Fire Department.

Advance tickets are available at Wendy’s in Geneva, Georgio’s Pizza, Luisa’s Mexican Grill, Victoria’s Country Corner, Ltd., Broadway Antiques, Georgio’s Pizza in Madison Wendy’s in Ashtabula, and Gilson Gardens in Perry.

Tickets are $12 for ages 12 and older and $6 for children ages 2 to 11. Tickets may be upgraded to box seats at an additional cost. The final day for discounted tickets is July 10.

D’Orazio said promotion tickets for free admission for children are valid, but require the purchase of an adult ticket.

“Every free ticket must be redeemed with an adult ticket,” she said. “I want to make that very clear because I don’t want anyone to be disappointed on circus day.”

D’Orazio said she is always excited about the circus.

“It’s a really nice show and we hold it rain or shine. This is the largest traveling tent show in the United States, I mean they have the elephants, the trapeze, the whole nine yards. There is nothing more exciting!”

D’Orazio encourages everyone to get their tickets early this year.

“With the weekend shows, we are very hopeful for a sellout crowd each day,” she said.

The circus is sponsored by the Ashtabula Star Beacon, Magic 102.5, The BULL, 970 AM-ESPN, FOX 107.5. Cougar 93.7, and Mix 97.1.

D’Orazio said she has her eye on the prize for local charities.

“My favorite part about the circus is giving the money to the charities,” she said. “It makes it all worthwhile for us. Everything goes to the charities and it makes us feel like we have really accomplished something.”
