Annual dog walk a fundraiser for park and Animal Protective League

Pooches and their owners will go “dog wild” at the annual Bark! at the Bridge event on June 13, and everyone’s invited.
The event will be held at the Harpersfield Covered Bridge and will serve as a fundraiser for both the Ashtabula County Animal Protective League and the Friends of the Harpersfield Covered Bridge Metropark. It is sponsored by The Green Leash.
Event organizer Marsha Vandervort said the walk, which takes people and dogs through the covered bridge, has grown every year.
“I would like to see the Ashtabula APL go home with at least $500 this year,” she said. “That’s my goal.”
Vandervort said she is hoping for nice weather – not too hot and not too cool.
“I am hoping this year the weather cooperates as last year was horrible with heat and humidity! The dogs had fun splashing in the river, though.”
The walk begins at 1 p.m. Pets and people will go on a one-mile walk across the Harpersfield Covered Bridge.
All dogs get a treat bag of goodies to take home. Prizes will be given to the best-dressed dog.
The walk includes pet photos, pet adoptions with the APL, music, and refreshments.
The day will also include games, contests, prizes and the best dressed dog in summer attire will win a 30 pound bag of dog food.
“The beautiful bridge in the background and a park full of dogs is a fantastic way to spend the day,” APL board member Irene Fiala said.
Dogs from the APL will be available for adoption, and donations of needed shelter items, including Purina brand dry cat and dog food and any brand canned cat and dog food, will be accepted.
The shelter also needs paper towels, Clorox brand bleach, towels, and CatSip brand kitten formula.
Donations of Chinese auction items are also needed for the walk.
