Geneva Recreation Center to host free day camp, summer concerts, community events

The Geneva Recreation Center is lining up family-friendly events all summer long, starting with a free basketball day camp to kick off months of fun.
“We have a lot going on this summer in Geneva,” said Recreation Director Myke Anderson. “Everything is family friendly and affordable.”
Anderson is hosting a free basketball camp for boys and girls ages 8 to 12. The camp will be held at Geneva High School on June 14 from noon to 2 p.m.
“This is a great opportunity to get your child interested in basketball,” Anderson said. “This one-day camp is open to the first 100 boys and girls who register. The varsity basketball coaches are running this camp, so it will be very fun and a great learning experience for the kids.”
Registration forms are available at Geneva City Hall, located at 44 N. Forest St.
Starting June 17, free summer concerts will be held at 7 p.m. every Thursday at the new pavilion on West Main Street.
“Bring a blanket or chairs and umbrellas if you need them,” Anderson said.
Free summer movie nights will be held every Tuesday evening beginning at the end of June.
“The movies will be like a community party every week,” Anderson said. “What a great way to relax and spend some time with family and friends. Just bring your own chairs and watch a movie under the stars.”
The schedule of movies will be announced soon.
Geneva area residents can catch a ball game and catch up with neighbors at the Geneva Community Night at the Lake County Captains game on July 23.
Tickets are available for $8 each if purchased in advance or $10 each if purchased at the game.
Ticket add-on options, such as admission to the Kid Zone for $6, advanced Gold Lot parking for $6, and a $6 food voucher for a hot dog or hamburger, chips and a soft drink, plus a $5 merchandise voucher are also available.
