It takes place Friday through Sunday and May 16, 17 and 18. Friday and Saturday shows begin at 7:30 p.m. Sunday matinees begin at 2 p.m. It is directed by Shelagh Dubsky. A mix of sight and sound, aesthetics and technique, Ballet is a mix of a number of arts. When combined and presented on the stage, you have the art of ballet-a highly disciplined stage art, based on a centuries-old tradition of movement. This season, the company will be presenting a collection of pieces that represent a wide variety of music and dance. Both premieres and old favorites will take the audience on a “subtle escape” through ensemble pieces such as "The Scherzo, allegro" from Brahon’s Piano Quartet, Mythics and "By Your Side" a relaxing and dreamlike display of partnering and movement to music by Sade. Returning to the stage will be the all female ensemble dancing to Samuel Barber's “Adagio For Strings.” This piece has delivered a strong emotional impact to audiences over the years and is considered by many to be the signature piece for Ballet Theatre Ashtabula and the generations of dancers who have danced with the company. Also on the program will be a collection of duets that show off the superb line and maturity of BTA's dancers. Some duets boldly tell the story of human relationships such as the Stevie Wonder ballad “All in Love is Fair” and Indigo Swing's “The Break-up.” Others are more subtle and unexpected in their stories. These much-varied duets are danced to the music of Bach, Corelli and Ottmar Liebert. Tickets are on sale for $12 patron seating, $10 adults, $9 seniors and $8 students and children.
