Professional New York Actor/Director to Hold Ashtabula Workshop
Interested in a professional acting career? The Ashtabula Arts Center is offering a special one-day workshop with professional New York actor/director James Stover on Saturday, from 11 a.m. - 1p.m. "Acting: Working in the Theater" will begin with a warm-up ensemble exercise and also include a Q&A session about working in professional theater. Participants can do a prepared monologue for the group and everyone will have a chance to do a cold reading and receive tips and feedback from Stover.
The workshop is open to all teens and adults, both beginners and veteran actors. Cost of the workshop is $15 per person. Pre-registration is required.
Spice up your cooking with our "Traditional Mexican Cooking" Class! with Nancy Bazyan at the Ashtabula Arts Center Tuesday, 7 - 9 p.m., Jan. 27, $30 class fee/ $27 member rate. Nancy Bazyan grew up in southern California learning to prepare her Mexican family‚s traditional recipes. Her menu will include appetizers, enchiladas, Mexican rice, beans, guacamole, and flan. This will be a hands-on class. Bring your appetite! Dinner is included! Preregistration and prepayment are required.
Wintertime Acting and Music Classes Offered at Arts Center
Winter classes are also offered in dance and the visual arts. All classes will begin the week of January 12th. Registration is required for all classes and can be made by after January 5 by calling the Arts Center at (440) 964-3396. Financial aid is available. While membership isn't required to participate in any Arts Center event, Arts Center members will receive a 10% discount off of class fee.

Keep it Real! For ages 13 through adults With Tom Jessup, Saturdays, 9:30 - 10:30 a.m. for ten weeks beginning January 17, $65 class fee/$58.50 member rate
As much a collaboration as it is instruction, "Keep it Real" will help the actor to find their way to make a character true to them, the essence of acting in the opinion of class leader Tom Jessup. Each student will participate in the discussions, games and research to help them achieve the stated goal of the class.

$10 workshop fee/$9 member rate Based upon a lifelong love of cartoon characters and utilizing games, exercises and discussions, the goal of the workshop is to help participants discover how to better animate the choices they make in their theatrical roles. The work will at times be somewhat strenuous, so everyone should wear comfortable clothing and be prepared to move. Prior to class, participants are asked to choose a favorite cartoon character and be prepared to discuss their choice with the group.

Woodcarving Classes are resuming on Thursday, January 8th from 7-9 p.m. at the Conneaut Community Center for the Arts. The class is open for beginners to advanced woodcarvers who are interested in the art of wood carving and wood burning. Instructed by Teresa Schultz and Carl Oxley, they offer years of experience and knowledge. If you need a winter hobby, or are looking to expand your knowledge and skills as a woodcarver, this class is for you. It is open to anyone teens to 90 years old. Creative Writing is gearing up for another four week session beginning Thursday, January 8th from 10 a.m. till noon at the Conneaut Community Center for the Arts. Instructor is Suzanne Byerley.
