Elvis tunes gets things ‘All Shook Up’ on Ashtabula stage

ASHTABULA —  Set in a small Midwestern town in Eisenhower’s 1955 is the G. B. Community Theatre production of Joe DiPietro’s “All Shook Up.”

The Broadway musical comedy features 24 Elvis Presley classics like “Heartbreak Hotel,” “Love Me Tender,” “Can’t Help Falling in Love” and “Don’t Be Cruel.”

Theater goers will watch as handsome, guitar-playing roustabout, “Chad” (played by Anthony Colby) blows into town on his motorcycle and gets everybody all shook up. His first meeting is with young mechanic “Natalie” (played by Emily Baker) who is instantly smitten with the most exciting and fun-loving guy any girl in town has ever seen.

But Chad had better watch out! The mayor has outlawed fun including tight pants, public kissing and — most definitely — there will be NO loud music!  But Chad decides to change the rules and before long he has everybody swept up in the power of rock & roll and romance!

Inspired by, and featuring the songs of, the late Elvis Presley, “All Shook Up” is filled with energetic singing and dancing as it tells its story of love and laughter to a score of favorite top 40 Elvis tunes.

Two final performances can be see on the Ashtabula Arts Center stage today and Saturday at 8 p.m.

Tickets for adults are $14, seniors/students $12 or save $2 per ticket when you purchase tickets in advance.  Advance sales must be purchased prior to 4 p.m. on the day of the show or by 4 p.m. Saturday for Sunday performances. Tickets can be purchased by visiting the Ashtabula Arts Center box office or by phone at 964-3396.

  • wd heat rocky 9 .jpg ‘The Rocky Horror Show’ is well performed, funny and worth seeing

Mention “The Rocky Horror Show” and almost everyone has an opinion, whether they've seen the movie or stage adaptation or not. It has been a cult classic for over three decades, since its release in 1975, and it has garnered plenty of criticism and negative commentary. Because public reaction to this extremely odd piece of musical comedy has been so strong for so long, many with an opinion have never even seen the movie or play. And many certainly do not understand that it is a spoof of shock theater. Yet they continue to berate the show as immoral and lewd.
