One last weekend to hate Hamlet

Star Beacon

—  “I Hate Hamlet,” the 1991 screwball comedy by Paul Rudnick, will play two final performances at the G.B. Community Theatre stage at the Ashtabula Arts Center today and Saturday at 8 p.m.

The production is directed by Bob Kilpatrick of Madison.

The tale matches the wit of a young, popular but out-of-work television star against the dramatic John Barrymore, the ghost who haunts Andrew’s new apartment. Barrymore is known for being the greatest Hamlet actor of all time, when he was alive, that is. When Andrew is offered the opportunity to play Hamlet onstage. Barrymore presses the young star to accept the role and fulfill his actor’s destiny. But there’s just one problem: Andrew hates Hamlet.

The play is intended for older audiences and not children or those easily offended.

Tickets are $14 for adults, $12 for seniors and students. Save $2 per ticket when you purchase tickets in advance by 4 p.m. the day of the show. Call 964-3396.
