From plays to musical programs, to spiritual experiences to entertainment for adults only, there’s lots going on in an around Ashtabula County this holiday season.
The audiences were somewhat sparse but the reviews good from people attending the opening weekend of Chris D’Itri’s “The Eight Reindeer Monologues” at the Moose Lodge, 3001 N. Bend Road, Saybrook Plaza.
Director Chris D’Itri is hoping those vibes will translate into increased traffic for the dinner theater this final weekend. The play runs today, Saturday and Sunday. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. for cocktails, followed by dinner at 7 and the production at 8.
There are lots of family-oriented holiday programs, but this isn’t one of them. The play involves allegations of rape and includes adult language. D’Itri rates the play “R.”
Call 440-536-4852 for reservations. Cost is $20 for dinner and play.
Ashtabula Arts Center opens its annual version of “The Nutcracker” tonight, but that isn’t all.
The center will present "Christmas Around the World," a whirlwind tour of the Christmas holiday around the globe that will include stories, crafts and fun for children in grades 1 - 6 on Dec. 22 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Students must provide their own packed lunch. The cost of the event is $30 per child. Pre-registration and pre-payment are required and can be made by visiting the center at 2928 W. 13th St. in Ashtabula or by calling (440) 964-3396.
The arts center isn’t just hosting a day of fun for kids. The children’s choir there will also perform an evening of holiday music Dec. 11 at 7 p.m. Admission is free and there’s no advanced reservations.
The theme is “Kids on Broadway at Christmas” and includes Broadway tunes from “Grease,” “Seussical” and “Scrooge.”
