ASHTABULA — G. B. Community Theatre at the Ashtabula Arts Center will play two final performances of “Night of January 16th” today and Saturday at 8 p.m.
“This script has it all,” says director Douglas Anderson. “Cliffhanger endings, young lovers, violent passions and unimaginable wealth — and even better: it’s the sort of play that will keep you thinking for weeks afterward.”
In the story, Bjorn Faulkner has swindled millions of dollars from investors but in the wake of a crash, he is facing bankruptcy. On the night of Jan. 16, Bjorn and Karen Andre, his mistress of 10 years, are in the penthouse at the top of the Faulkner Building when Faulkner falls to his death. When Karen Andre is placed on trial for the murder, witnesses will all be called to testify.
Was Faulkner murdered? And if so, by whom? The most compelling part of this drama is that the jury members are selected from the audience. They will weigh the evidence presented by the actors on stage and determine the guilt or innocence of Karen Andre.
“We’ve tried to strip the set down to the basics, to let the audience focus on untangling the conflicting testimonies of the witnesses,” says Anderson. “Putting the jury of audience members right onstage allows them to become part of the action. And Joe Kosch has added some wonderful photography, which becomes a dynamic and ever-changing part of the set.”
Box office tickets to "Night of January 16th" are general admission $12 and senior/student $11. Or save $2 per ticket when you purchase tickets in advance. For tickets or more information call 964-3396.
