Choral Music Society hosts youth camps

ASHTABULA — The Ashtabula County Choral Music Society will host two choir camps for young people this summer.
The first session will be held July 27-30 for singers in grades 7-9. The second session is for grades 5 and 6 is slated for Aug. 3-6. These are grades students will be going into this fall.
Both camps will take place from 9 a.m. to noon at the First United Methodist Church, 4506 Elm Ave.
Curriculum is designed to help students improve singing skills, learn to sing well with others, learn to read music from a score and have fun with music.
The daily schedule will involve choir rehearsals, a music class, a small group lesson, snack and recreation.
Camp staff includes certified music instructors Kathleen Milford for both sessions, Rebecca Levering for session one and Susan Cook for session two, along with Taylor Peel, senior music education major at the University of Akron, and ACCMS youth alumni Brittany Dunne and Care Santiana.
Registration fee for each camp is $75, if received before June 20. Scholarships are available and donations accepted from organizations, churches, schools, music booster clubs and individuals who wish to sponsor a young person.
The fee includes instruction, music, facility, a daily snack, performance shirt and administrative materials. Each camp concludes with a free public concert.
