ASHTABULA Theres only three performances left for Ballet Theatre Ashtabula. "Subtle Escape" programs today and Saturday at the Ashtabula Arts Center start at 7:30 p.m. A Sunday matinee opens at 2 p.m.
Directed by Shelagh Dubsky and assistant director Clover Robinson, the production presents a powerful and vivid expression of dance set to an outstanding range of musical pieces.
Audiences will experience dances set to contemporary songs of Stevie Wonder (All in Love is Fair), Fleetwood Mac (Landslide), Sade ( By Your Side), and Indigo Swing (The Break-Up); the swaying and melodic Surrender 2 Love by German-born guitarist Ottmar Liebert; a Cirque du Soliel piece entitled Mythics, plus many beautiful choreographed numbers by by well-known classical artists such as Johann Sebastian Bach, Mozart and Corelli.
Also returning to the stage will be an audience favorite ensemble dance set to Samuel Barber's Adagio For Strings. Delivering a strong emotional impact to audiences over the years, it is considered by many to be the signature piece for Ballet Theatre Ashtabula and the generations of dancers who have danced with the company.
Ballet Theatre Ashtabula is the in-house ballet company at the Ashtabula Arts Center. Most of the dancers featured in this spring production have been studying the art of ballet and dance for many years. Their dance training has extended beyond the mastery of dance steps and become an outlet for artistic and emotional expression.
Dance instruction at the arts center includes classes in ballet, modern, jazz, tap, ballroom and more. Ballet and dance training begins for children as young as age 4. As students advance with their study of dance, they build self-esteem through hard work and learn about self-discipline, responsibility, commitment and the value of working as part of a larger community.
Tickets are on sale now for $12 patron seating, $9 adults, $8 seniors and $7 for students and children. Tickets can be purchased by visiting the Ashtabula Arts Center box office or by calling (440) 964-3396.
