LOCATED IN Ashtabula River Gulf near the downtown area, the Spring Street covered bridge linked Ashtabula Township to the village in the 1800s. There is documentation that suggests at least three covered bridges stood at this spot, which was prone to flooding. This undated image shows some of the debris that washed onto the valley floor during one of those floods. The bridge was quickly antiquated in 1896, when the high-level bridge was completed above it.
